Onsite SEO 101: a simple guide to the essentials
Most founders hear SEO and picture keyword spreadsheets and a blog nobody reads. The onsite basics are smaller than that, and you only have to get them right once.
One page, one job
Every page should answer a single question a real person types. If two pages answer the same question, you are competing with yourself and a search engine has to guess which one matters. Merge them.
Titles are not headlines
The title tag is the sentence someone reads before they decide to click. It is allowed to be plain. Lead with the thing being offered, keep it under sixty characters, and let the on-page headline carry the personality.
Structure the page the way you would read it aloud
One h1, descriptive h2s, and paragraphs that survive being skimmed. Alt text that says what the image shows rather than repeating the keyword. Internal links written as the words someone would search for, not as click here.
Then stop
Onsite SEO has a ceiling, and it arrives quickly. Once the basics are in place, the next meaningful gain comes from having something worth linking to, not from another pass over your meta descriptions.
